Volunteers Make the Difference
Closing the digital divide for seniors starts with our amazing volunteers.
Volunteer Opportunities
Teaching our community’s seniors how to engage in today’s digital world enables seniors to stay connected and minimize social isolation, maintain independence, enjoy continuous learning and remain mentally active. Our volunteers are a critical part of our ability to deliver these services to seniors and older adults across our community. Click each volunteer opportunity to review the requirements.

Classroom Volunteers
Passionate about teaching technology?
Engaging with our students in the classroom requires individuals with patience, empathy, and experience with technology.
We offer two volunteer opportunities to work with our students in the classroom: Instructors and Coaches. Instructors lead students through the course curriculum, encourage student engagement, answer questions and ensure learning objectives are achieved. Coaches support the instructors by providing individual instruction during class exercises to keep students on track.
Both volunteer opportunities include training through TechSmart and require active participation in providing feedback on both course content and training delivery.
Committee Volunteers
Got great ideas or organizational skills?
Leverage the skills you’ve gained through school, work, and life – or develop new ones. Help TechSmart meet the mission of keeping seniors connected, independent, and engaged as a volunteer for one of our committees – operations, outreach, fundraising, or curriculum development.
Event Volunteers
Love to pitch in?
Carrying out our mission requires an all hands approach that includes volunteers to make our events possible. We welcome onsite or logistics support at our events throughout the year – including our annual Game of Corns league – or help with fundraising and sponsorship activities.

About the Classroom Experience
TechSmart partners with libraries, community centers, religious organizations and retirement living communities in the greater Atlanta area. Classes are about 60 minutes and usually have 10-20 students in the 70+ age group.
The curriculum and instructional materials are tailored to seniors’ needs by offering bite-sized lessons with actionable steps, repetition and simple handouts to reinforce the lesson. Subjects are diverse and address basic activities including email, texting, taking and sharing photos, ordering rides, and online shopping using primarily Android and iOS smartphones and tablets.
